Portcullis v. Caledonian - Saturday, 29 April, 2006
Toss was won by Portcullis, who chose to field.
Caledonian : 101 all out (12).
Portcullis : 105 for 7 (30).
Good day for all (except Hon Treasurer)
Portcullis got off to a good start against Caley with Grant, Sajid and Mashook bowling tightly and well supported by good ground fielding. After his first over Grant was practically unplayable with only 1 run being scored off the bat. He got the first breakthrough with two wickets in the 9th over. Mashook got one then Steven anounced his (LATE!!!!) arrival with his first ball for PCC taking out the middle stump of the dangerous Arran. The captain then came on taking a couple including the limpet like opener Chapman who had batted for 23 overs for 9 runs. We looked as if we were going to run through them but their skipper Cordiner gave some resistance until a Mashook/Collins bit of unportcullis type fielding brought the innings to a close on 101.
Andy and Sajid batted sensibly on a wicket which was very bowler friendly but one suspected with Sajid in fine form that this was not going to last, and once they had put on 50 he had a hoik at a straight one to begin a traditional PCC front order capitulation. Steven joined Andy to take us to within 3 runs of victory, and a batting order reversal to give Bob Adie or Dave Forbes the chance to score the winning runs. The plan backfired (as is often the case with plans) and Grant got the remaining batsmen scrabbling to put on pads by getting a Golden Duck. Fortunately Andy managed to get us over the line and complete his fifty in the process.
Everyone got a bat or a bowl and we trooped off to the Justice Mill for Drinks and Nibbles courtesy of J D Weatherspoon (to become a regular feature one hopes).
The only unhappy man was Bob. The teas have gone up in price and our bowlers hit the stumps eight times and broke three of them in the process!! Be ready to vote against a subs increase!!
